Kolkata: The NSCBI Airport police arrested two persons during a naka-check at the airport arrival in the early hours of Wednesday and seized two gold chains worth over Rs 1 crore. The police were conducting a special naka-checking of vehicles driving out of the airport terminal and entering VIP Road. Around 1.15 am, the police stopped an app cab and checked the luggage of the two passengers. They found two gold chains from their luggage, each weighing 331 grams. The duo was arrested when they couldn’t furnish proper documents. After preliminary probe, police learned that the arrested duo were handlers and were coming from Bangkok. The police are conducting further investigations to know more on the racket. Meanwhile, the Income Tax department has seized a large amount of foreign currency in Kolkata and three people have been detained. A large amount of foreign currency — approximately Rs 5 crore in Indian currency — was seized during a raid in the Park Street police station area. Acting on a tip, officials from the department conducted a raid near Park Street and seized $4,75,000 and 3,00,000 Thai Baht. When calculated in Indian currency, this amounts to a staggering Rs 4,54,82,500.
