Madikeri: Foresters have launched an operation to rescue a leopard that was sighted in Gejjehanakodu village in Somwarpet taluk.The big cat’s movements in the courtyard of a house were captured on a CCTV camera, following which the forest department installed a cage to rescue the leopard.

This comes after a leopard attacked a dog and a calf at Karekoppa village.Meanwhile, the wild elephant problem increased at Nokya village — damaging coffee crops and fields — and also trampling sprinkler pipes. This came amid a lone elephant attempting to attack bikers in Badaga-Banangala village. Mani and Sumanth, who work in a private coffee plantation, were returning home after work on Tuesday night when the elephant suddenly attacked them after venturing out of a coffee plantation. Luckily, they managed to escape, but suffered minor injuries in the incident. The elephant crushed the bike before entering the coffee plantation. On receiving information, sub-range forest officer Shashi visited the spot.
