Rajkot: A forest tracker was injured after being attacked by a lioness during a routine monitoring exercise on the banks of the Shetrunji river near Chandgadh village in Amreli district on Saturday.According to assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Rajan Jadhav, the incident occurred in the presence of a forest department team that was monitoring the movement of the lioness after receiving information that it had crossed the river and entered the forest area.“Forst tracker Gosabhai Choria was attacked by a lioness, which had reached the forest area after crossing the Shetrunji river. The forest team, including three trackers and beat guards, had received information about the lioness crossing the river. They were there to verify the information and further monitor its movement,” Jadhav said.Choria was injured in the attack and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Jadhav said he was out of danger.The forest department has urged residents of villages bordering forest areas to remain vigilant during the monsoon, when thick vegetation can reduce visibility and increase the possibility of encounters with wild animals.Jadhav appealed to villagers to immediately report any suspicious movement of lions or other wild animals to the forest department through its helpline.
