Rajkot: Long-simmering anger culminated in filicidal bloodshed on Thursday evening, as a resident of New Nehrunagar bludgeoned his 33-year-old son to death.Ram Savseta and his father Babu Savseta had recurring altercations regarding Babu’s criminal activities and personal conduct. Babu initially told police he killed Ram because of Ram’s liquor addiction, but the investigation made the motive clear.According to police, the father and son clashed frequently because Ram urged his father to give up stealing and mend his ways regarding his alleged extramarital relationships. This had led to frequent quarrels in their house earlier.Tensions culminated on Thursday, when another argument broke out between the two. At 7.30pm, the victim’s mother, Hansa, who was visiting her daughter’s residence, was alerted by her son-in-law Rajesh that Babu had attacked Ram with a blunt iron object.On rushing back, Hansa found her son in a pool of blood with fatal head injuries, predominantly above his left eye, along with trauma across other parts of his body.After the killing, Babu presented himself at the local police station. According to police Babu attempted to mislead officials, saying his son was merely unwell and required immediate hospitalization. Under sustained questioning, he admitted to killing his son.Based on a complaint by Hansa, police booked Babu Savseta for murder.Preliminary inquiries revealed that Ram was previously employed at a mobile phone shop but was unemployed for the past six months. Police confirmed that Babu Savseta has a criminal record involving two vehicle theft cases. Further investigation is underway.
