Madikeri: An operation to drive wild elephants roaming in the forest in Abhyat Mangala, Katibane, Arekadu, Athimangala, Nalvathekre villages under the jurisdiction of the Meenu Kolli branch of the Kushalnagar forest area, which was carried out for the last two days, seems to have failed. The wild elephants separated from the group and have wandered from one plantation to another, reluctant to move back into the forest, foresters said. The operation was carried out using a drone camera.During the operation, more than 12 wild elephants were found in two groups, the officials said. The operation failed because the wild elephants did not venture into the forest area but remained in the coffee plantations. Forest personnel, RRT team and elephant task force personnel, led by Kushalnagar range forest officer Rakshit and sub-range forest officer Sachin Nimbalkar, participated in the operation.
