Mandya: In what is being seen as the third violent incident on the Bengaluru–Mysuru National Highway within a week, a KSRTC FlyBus driver and conductor were allegedly assaulted by a group of miscreants on the service road near Indavalu in Mandya district.The incident occurred around 2.30am on July 5 but came to light only Wednesday after a video of the assault went viral.The FlyBus was travelling from Kempegowda International Airport to Mysuru.After dropping passengers in Mandya, the bus was heading towards Mysuru along the highway service road near Indavalu, a few kilometres from the Mandya bus stand, when it was intercepted by a group of men.The accused, who were allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road are suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol. They reportedly stopped the bus and began verbally abusing the driver. When the driver warned them that the police would be informed, the group allegedly turned violent.Driver Vinod and conductor Eeranna were assaulted during the altercation. In the viral video, one of the accused is allegedly heard claiming to be a “local” while intimidating the bus crew. Immediately after the incident, the driver and conductor dialled the 112 emergency helpline. Police personnel reached the spot within minutes, shifted the injured to a nearby hospital and later registered a case at Mandya Rural Police Station.The latest incident has intensified concerns over safety on the Bengaluru–Mysuru National Highway. In recent days, a truck driver was attacked in a firing incident, while a family travelling near Maddur was allegedly assaulted by a gang armed with an iron rod. The series of incidents has prompted demands for enhanced highway patrolling and stricter action against anti-social elements.Speaking to TOI, Mandya SP V J Shobharani said all three incidents appeared to have stemmed from sudden provocation rather than being part of any organised criminal pattern. “We have a dedicated mobile highway patrol and have further alerted and briefed the personnel. There are four highway patrol vehicles and 13 ERSS vehicles deployed to monitor the highway in Mandya district. Those involved in these crimes will be dealt with firmly, and no one will be spared. Stringent action will be taken against the accused. In any emergency, the public can dial 112, and police will reach the spot within minutes,” she assured.
