Prayagraj: The water levels of twin rivers – Ganga and Yamuna – on Monday continued to recede on second consecutive day, bringing respite to the residents in low-lying flood-prone areas, though district authorities maintained a close watch.Both the rivers started receding in city, flowing three to four meters below the danger mark. The Yamuna at Naini and the Ganga at Phaphamau are dropping steadily as per the chart issued by the flood control department by Monday.Although the rivers are further receding at a slower pace but it brought major relief for residents of more than a dozen low lying areas. However, a section of people in low lying areas fear that water level might again increase if flood water being released to Ganga and Yamuna from dams. However, both the rivers have currently receded at all the three measuring points of the district including Naini, Phaphamau and Chhatnag.The level of Ganga (as recorded at 12 noon of Monday) at Phaphamau was 81.03 m, and at Chhatnag, it was recorded at 79.65 m. At Naini, Yamuna was flowing at 80.10m, which is far below the danger level. The danger level for both rivers is 84.734 meters.Ganga has receded at a speed of 8 cm in past four hours at Phaphamau and 1 cm at Chhatnag. Likewise, Yamuna at Naini has receded 6 cm in past four hours. Flood water too receded on river banks.
