T’puram: The health department has ordered the closure of a floating restaurant operating at Kapil Priyadarshini Boat Club under DTPC after an inspection found stale food and unhygienic conditions that could pose a risk to public health.The restaurant, which has been leased to a private individual, was found to be functioning in unhygienic conditions, following which health officials issued a notice directing its closure. Several stale food items were seized from the restaurant during the inspection, said health inspector Abdul Jaleel M.The inspection was conducted jointly by the health department and Edava grama panchayat as part of a special drive to check hygiene and food safety standards at eateries in the Kapil area. Six food establishments were inspected as part of the drive.Officials also issued a notice to Meadows Restaurant after finding it operating in unhygienic conditions. The health department said further inspections would be carried out at food establishments in the area in the coming days.The inspection team was led by Edava Family Health Centre health inspector Abdul Jaleel M and Edava grama panchayat health inspector Soumya R S. Junior health inspectors Gopakumar J S and other officers.
