Bahraich: Five villagers were injured in a series of attacks by an unidentified wild animal in Parsohna village of Mahsi late Friday night, triggering panic among residents. The attacks occurred at different locations in the village over around three hours.The first incident was reported around midnight when the animal allegedly entered a residential area and attacked 10-year-old Rukhsana, who was sleeping in a verandah. Her screams alerted family members, who rushed to her aid but could not spot the animal.Over the next three hours, the animal reportedly targeted four more villagers sleeping in different houses. Musafir (19), Gautam (36), Ram Gopal (38) and Habib (61) sustained injuries.The attacks sparked panic, with residents rushing out of their homes carrying sticks and other objects for protection. Villagers suspected a wolf may have been responsible, while Forest Department personnel, after examining footprints at the sites, reportedly suggested the injuries may have been caused by a dog.Residents informed local police and Forest Department officials. Following the alert, SHO Alok Singh reached the village and arranged for all five injured villagers to be taken by ambulance to CHC Mahsi for treatment.Forest personnel inspected the locations and examined footprints and other signs to determine which animal was responsible. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation, while residents remain concerned about further attacks and have been urged to stay alert, particularly at night.
