Kanpur: Five new cases of dengue were confirmed in Kanpur on Thursday, with patients identified in Juhi Khurd, Panki, Afeem Kothi, Ganesh Nagar in Rawatpur and Gadanpur Chursa in Bilhaur block, health department officials said.Health department teams launched case-based preventive activities and public awareness campaigns in the affected localities.Malaria inspector Seema Gautam led the field activities, during which the new cases were identified. Teams also inspected potential mosquito-breeding sites and initiated measures to eliminate sources of stagnant water.Nodal officer (VBD) Dr Rajeshwar Singh, accompanied by regional coordinator of partner organisation PATH, Dr Shivkant, inspected the preventive activities in Juhi Khurd.The health department has appealed to residents to prevent water from stagnating in and around their homes and regularly clean potential mosquito-breeding sites. Residents in waterlogging-prone areas were advised to take preventive measures.Officials advised people to maintain cleanliness to check the spread of vector-borne and other communicable diseases.Later, Dr Rajeshwar Singh inspected a temporary shelter set up in flood-affected Mardanpurva village, where source-reduction activities had been initiated. Health officials conducted awareness activities at the shelter, educating residents about mosquito protection and the importance of eliminating potential breeding sites.The health department said its control room at UHM Hospital, Parade, was operational to provide information related to communicable diseases and address public queries.
