Varanasi: Five people were arrested on Friday in Kadipur village under Raunapar police station in Azamgarh district for allegedly carrying out religious conversion during a Christian prayer meeting attended by around 40 to 50 people. Several attendees reportedly left the venue after police arrived. The arrested individuals were later produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.According to reports, the prayer meeting was being held at the residence of Kanti Devi in Kadipur village. Shiv Sagar Bharti, head of Rajdeopur Math, informed Raunapar SHO Sunil Kumar Dubey that religious conversion was allegedly taking place during the gathering.As a police team reached the spot, several people escaped. Bharti subsequently submitted a written complaint alleging religious conversion.According to the SHO, an FIR was registered under relevant sections against Kanti Devi of Kadipur, Babita Devi of Rasulpur, Suman of Turkauli, Gharbharan of Rasulpur, and Rahul of Kadipur.Dubey said Kanti had also faced action in a similar case in 2022, when she was sent to jail and secured bail after about 22 days.
