Kanpur: A major fire broke out in the revenue department of Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Thursday, prompting a swift response from the fire department.According to the Colonelganj fire station, the blaze broke out around 4.30pm. On receiving information, four fire tenders were pressed into service, and the fire was brought under control within two hours.Sources said the fire started when employees were leaving the office. Smoke soon engulfed the department, followed by visible flames. Mayor Pramila Pandey and other civic officials reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. After the fire was doused, the mayor inspected the site.The mayor later ordered an inquiry into the incident. She said the preliminary assessment by the fire department indicated that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit.
