Fire broke out in garments shop in Kanpur

Kanpur: A major fire broke out at a ready-made garments shop in Lalbangla Market in Chakeri police station area of Kanpur on Thursday morning. Goods worth lakhs turned to ashes.The shop operator, Prince Gupta, a resident of Shyamnagar, said his shop is located in the vegetable market of Lalbangla. He went home after closing the shop on Wednesday night. He had brought in new stock of clothes just two days ago, he said.His landlord Aditya Verma informed him on Thursday morning about smoke coming out of the shop. Gupta said that by the time he reached the spot, the fire had spread across the entire shop. He alleged that fire tenders were delayed by over an hour due to which more damage was caused. He claimed that the fire caused a loss of around Rs 50 lakh.Fire officials said that as soon as information was received, two fire tankers and one high-pressure unit from Jajmau fire station arrived at the spot. The fire team took charge to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the shop and nearby shops, and after considerable effort, the blaze was doused.It is suspected that a short circuit led to the fire. Fire officer Rahul Nandan confirmed that there was no loss of life. The cause of the blaze was being investigated, he added.
