Mumbai: Police have registered an offence against an unknown person after six cats were brutally killed near Shani Mandir in Govandi early on Monday.A 53-year-old woman who had been feeding and caring for stray cats for the past five to six years, filed a complaint under Prevention of Cruelty to Life Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.According to the complaint filed by Rubina Abdul Malik Pathan, she found two dead cats, including a kitten, near the temple around 10 am on Sept 5. One cat had suffered severe head injuries allegedly caused by a heavy object, while the kitten had also sustained serious injuries. She photographed the bodies on her mobile phone. Pathan said four other cats were brutally killed in the same area on Sept 3, and she had photographed them as well. Suspecting deliberate killing, she approached PETA and, on its advice, deposited the two dead cats at an animal hospital in Parel.She later approached the police along with animal activist Pooja Shrivastava and submitted photographs, seeking legal action against the unidentified accused. Police have initiated action based on her complaint.
