Mumbai: FDA said on Thursday it suspended the licence of Gajanan Vadapav & Snacks Center in Kanjurmarg West after its food handler was found chewing tobacco while preparing food, among other issues. This is one of the six food establishments in the city that faced FDA action earlier this week.Gajanan Vadapav also had rodent droppings, lacked pest control measures, and used newspapers to cover food items.Other Mumbai establishments that faced licence suspensions include Samarth Sweets in Jogeshwari, due to heavy rodent activity, open burrows, and rodent droppings near raw material storage, and Misha Sweets in Jogeshwari, which had pests in its raw materials.Nawab Seekh Corner in Kurla faced licence suspension over ants in semolina, dirty refrigerators, and accumulated meat waste, while Hotel Ashwin had an active rat infestation. Meanwhile, Ekvira Zunka Bhakar in Mulund faced licence suspension over cramped space, poor ventilation, open waste bins, fly infestation, unhygienic vegetable and vada stuffing, and repeated use of frying oil without TPC testing.FDA has acted against 11 others in Thane’s Shil-Diva area after inspections showed substandard sellers and manufacturing units of farsan, wafers, chivda, and namkeen during its annual checks ahead of the festive season.The Thane establishments are Rakesh Lalji Gupta, Rahul Foods, Krishna Banana Chips, Komal Wafers, Chaska Maska Foods, Om Sai Traders Farsan, Harish Chaska Food, Dharmaraj Fruit Supply, Antima Farsan and Wafers, Nitya Farsan and Chakli, and Vimal Namkeen.During the raids, a total stock weighing 28,955 kg and 56 litres, valued at Rs 20 lakh and comprising raw food materials, used oil, and food items stored for sale, was seized on suspicion of adulteration.
