Lucknow: Gorakhpur police on Monday registered a case against former MLA Vinay Shankar Tiwari, son of former cabinet minister and strongman Harishankar Tiwari, on charges of issuing threats during a telephonic altercation with a local civic representative.According to police, the case was registered at Barhalganj police station based on a complaint filed by chairman’s representative Mahesh Umar. The complainant alleged that a heated argument took place between Tiwari and Umar over the phone regarding a dispute linked to a commemorative plaque at Soti Chauraha in Barhalganj. The controversy began after a stone plaque installed in 1995 during the tenure of then MLA Harishankar Tiwari was reportedly removed and replaced by a new plaque by the Barhalganj nagar panchayat. Two days ago, the Nagar Panchayat installed a new plaque at the same location to mark another civic work, which triggered protests from supporters of the late minister. Following the protests, the civic body removed the newly installed plaque and relocated it to another designated spot.Despite the corrective action, the issue soon escalated and took a political turn after an audio clip of the alleged heated phone conversation between Tiwari and Umar surfaced on social media.
