Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Thursday directed the director in-chief health services to file a detailed affidavit before the bench about the status of establishment and operations of burn wards in govt hospitals across the state.A division bench of Chief Justice MS Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by one Onkar Vishwakarma on the establishment of burn wards in govt hospitals in all districts of the state. The govt counsel informed the high court that burn wards have been set up in all govt hospitals and medical colleges across the state. The necessary infrastructure required for establishing and running a burn unit has been commissioned and is being monitored. Adequate medical personnel needed to run the burn units successfully have been hired, he added. However, amicus curiae advocate Diksha Dwivedi argued before the bench that there is a shortage of medical specialists in some burn units in govt hospitals. The govt, during an earlier hearing in the case, had submitted a chart in the court which showed that only four districts had burn units with satisfactory equipment and personnel. The govt did not mention the establishment of burn units in all govt hospitals, she added. The court then directed the director in-chief health services to file a detailed affidavit in the matter.
