Patiala: Simranpreet Kaur, the daughter of farmers from Nabha in Patiala district, has secured an All-India Rank 15 in the UPSC exam. Hailing from Birarwal village near Nabha, she is the daughter of Kuldeep Singh and Amandeep Kaur, who are engaged in farming. Residents of the village celebrated her achievement, which brought recognition to the rural area. Simranpreet completed her graduation and post-graduation in Political Science from Khalsa College, Patiala, and decided to join the civil services during her college years. After completing her higher studies, she began preparing for the UPSC examination. This was her fourth attempt, in which she achieved the 15th rank at the national level. She prepared through online classes and guidance from a mentor based in Karnataka, while maintaining a disciplined study schedule. “It was my fourth attempt but I appeared for interview for the first time after clearing my mains exam” she said, while adding that her village is around 20 km distance from Patiala. Speaking about her aspirations, Simranpreet said that coming from a farming family and a rural background shaped her outlook. She expressed her desire to work for the development of rural areas and improve opportunities for people in villages.Her father, Kuldeep Singh, along with his brother Jagdeep Singh, is known in the village as a hardworking farmer who cultivates potatoes and other vegetables. The family’s perseverance and support played a crucial role in Simranpreet’s journey.Congratulating her, Khalsa College principal Dharminder Singh Ubha described the accomplishment as a matter of immense pride for the institution. He said Simranpreet’s success reflected determination, perseverance and focused effort. Head of the Political Science Department, Jagtar Singh, praised Simranpreet and described her as a diligent and talented student since her college days.
