The Premchand Archives at Jamia Millia Islamia proudly kicked off the first Prof. Gopi Chand Narang Memorial Lecture, featuring esteemed Prof. Kausar Mazhari. This enlightening discussion delved into the intricate dynamics of text and interpretation, celebrating Prof. Narang’s profound impact on Urdu literature and the vibrant academic community at JMI

Jamia’s Premchand Archives and Literary Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia organized the first Prof. Gopi Chand Narang Memorial Lecture on February 26. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Kausar Mazhari, Head, Department of Urdu, JMI and presided by Prof. Khalid Mahmood, Former Head, Dept. of Urdu, JMI.On this occasion, Prof. Shahzad Anjum, Director of Archives, inaugurated the event and thanked the Vice Chancellor, JMI, Prof. Mazhar Asif and the Registrar, JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi for their support and patronage of academic activities in the Archives, which enhance the level of debates and discussions among scholars, students, and faculty members. He also thanked the eminent writer, scholar, critic and poet, Prof. Kausar Mazhari for accepting his invitation to chair the session and for enlightening the students with his expertise on the topic, ‘Matn Aur Qir’at Ka Bahmi Rishta’, given his wide acclaim and recognition for his profound contributions to Urdu Nazm and literary criticism. He impressed the audience by his intellectual honesty, critical depth, and simple style of speaking and command over the topic.Prof. Iqtidar Mohd. Khan, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Languages, JMI also extended his good wishes in organizing the Gopi Chand Narang Memorial Lecture at the Archives and said that the services and contributions of our patrons and well wishers should not be forgotten.The lecture was presided over by Prof. Khalid Mahmood, Former Head, Dept. of Urdu, JMI, who worked with Prof. Gopi Chand Narang at the Department of Urdu, JMI as a colleague. He also shared with the audience his close relations and long experiences with Prof. Narang. He informed the gathering that Prof. Narang played a vital role in strengthening the academic culture in the Urdu department adding that he broadened the intellectual horizons of scholarship at JMI and inspired a generation of scholars to think comparatively and critically. The event was attended by a large gathering of students, researchers, and teachers in the main hall of the Premchand Archives & Literary Centre, JMI.
