Chabba: The Punjab chapter of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) on Wednesday warned of blocking railway tracks at five locations across the state from noon on Sept 17 if the Punjab govt failed to address farmers’ and labourers’ demands.KMM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the organisation had given the govt until noon on Sept 17 to find a “concrete solution” to its demands. If no satisfactory action was taken, protesters would block tracks at Devi Daspura in Amritsar, Sangrur-Sunam, Gurdaspur, Moga and Ferozepur. The warning followed a meeting of the KMM Punjab chapter at the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab headquarters in Chabba. KMM leaders said they had been protesting outside the residences of nine Punjab ministers for the past three days.Pandher alleged that despite repeated attempts to seek dialogue, the govt had failed to take their demands seriously. He said the Morcha had earlier sent a letter and memorandum of demands to chief minister Bhagwant Mann seeking talks, but no serious initiative had been taken. The leaders warned that the agitation would be expanded if the govt continued to ignore their demands, with more railway points potentially brought into the protest. The KMM said its next meeting would be held on Sept 18 to review the govt’s response and decide the future course of the agitation.Meanwhile, protesters said large gatherings of farmers, labourers and women were witnessed outside ministers’ residences and protest marches were held in the evening. In Amritsar, the protest outside state minister Harbhajan Singh ETO’s New Amritsar residence was shifted to the railway track near Devi Daspura, where the proposed blockade is scheduled to begin if the govt fails to act, protesters said.
