Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday went on safari at Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoo with forest minister Ganesh Naik.He also chaired a review meeting on ongoing works at the zoo, attended by Naik and senior forest department officials.Fadnavis said efforts to develop the park and conserve its wildlife had been underway. The state plans to launch an African-themed safari next year featuring the so-called Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo.“These animals will certainly make it a big draw for tourists,” Fadnavis said.The zoo is open to visitors and draws decent footfalls, while the African safari is yet to be completed. Work on a unique ‘walking safari trail’ is also nearing completion, with animals housed in enclosures along a winding path surrounded by curated landscapes.Fadnavis recorded his feedback in the visitor book, writing: “Watching the animals and birds roam freely in the forest gave me great joy.”His visit came a day after Naik toured the safari and chaired a review meeting at the Gorewada Rescue Centre.
