Rewari: A Scorpio SUV belonging to former Haryana minister Jaswant Bawal was stolen from outside his residence in Sector-3, Rewari, in the early hours of Saturday, with CCTV footage showing what police suspect was a planned theft.Police said the black Scorpio, bought around 10 months ago, was parked outside Bawal’s house along with another SUV when the theft took place around 2 am. The stolen vehicle bears registration number HR36AT8598.According to investigators, CCTV footage showed the suspects arriving in a small hatchback, suspected to be a Maruti Alto, allegedly without a number plate. The vehicle was first seen passing through the lane, apparently to survey the area, and returned about 10 minutes later.One of the suspects then stepped out, broke the window of the SUV and drove away with it within minutes, while the accomplices fled in the hatchback, police said.The theft came to light in the morning, after which the matter was reported to police. A team from Model Town police station reached the spot and began investigation.Sector-3 police post in-charge SI Rakesh Kumar said a formal complaint had been received and CCTV footage from the locality and nearby areas was being examined to trace the suspects’ movement.Police said multiple teams, including CIA Rewari, Model Town police and Sector-3 police post staff, had been deployed to crack the case. Raids were being carried out and technical surveillance was also being used.The incident has triggered concern among residents of the area, with some questioning night patrolling and surveillance arrangements in the locality.
