Hyderabad: Two days after ex-havildar U Mallesh was remanded in judicial custody by the state police for his role in the theft at the Madras Regiment armoury in Bolarum, he was admitted to a hospital on Sunday.The development came to light on Monday night. Sources in the prison department said Mallesh was admitted as he was suffering from liver and kidney problems.“When we verified with the doctors on Monday, they informed us that Mallesh is likely to be discharged in a day or two. When a remand prisoner is brought to prison, he undergoes a full-body check-up. After the reports showed that he had liver and kidney problems, he was shifted to a hospital for treatment,” prison officials told TOI.Mallesh was arrested by Bollarum police on Friday and later produced before a magistrate, who remanded him to Chanchalguda prison. Before his arrest, Mallesh was questioned by officials of multiple agencies, both state and central.Meanwhile, Bollarum police on Tuesday moved a petition before a local court seeking permission for custodial interrogation of Mallesh. The police sought 10 days’ custody. The petition is yet to come up for hearing.
