Mysuru: JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER) professor and head of surgical oncology, Dr Ravi Krishnappa, stressed the need for evidence-based ayurvedic research to strengthen integrative cancer care.Speaking after launching a national continuing medical education (CME) and faculty development programme on an integrative approach to cancer care at JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital to mark World Cancer Day, he called for collaborative treatment protocols to improve patients’ quality of life.

The department of PG studies in kayachikitsa and the medical education technology cell organised the event in association with Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal.Dr KM Madhu, chief medical officer, Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal, highlighted innovative research initiatives in cancer management.JSS Ayurveda Medical College principal Dr Sarbeshwar Kar emphasised the need for integrative oncology in line with the national vision for integrated healthcare by 2030 and encouraged a compassionate healing approach. Dr Deepa C Patil was present.Scientific sessions featured experts from modern medicine and ayurveda. Topics covered ayurvedic approaches to cancer, integration in radiotherapy, biomarkers for early detection, dietary and epigenetic interventions, and the role of ‘shodhana’ and ‘rasayana’ therapies as supportive care in advanced cancers.Director R Mahesh, chief guest for the valedictory session, felicitated the best paper winner. The programme drew over 200 delegates from across the country.
