Administrative and police officials with visually impaired widow, Ramdulari Devi.

Buxar: A visually impaired widow, who was allegedly evicted from her home by her sons, regained possession of her residence following the intervention of Dumraon SDM Rajiv Kumar on Saturday. The administration restored the house to Ramdulari Devi, a resident of Dudhi Patti in Simri block, under provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.According to officials, Ramdulari’s husband was a govt employee, and she has been dependent on his pension since his death. However, instead of receiving care and support in her old age, she was allegedly forced out of her home by her two sons.Officials alleged that one of her sons had taken a loan using the bank account where her pension was deposited. The loan instalments were being deducted from her pension, causing her financial hardship.Taking cognizance of her plight, SDM Rajiv Kumar initiated action under Section 4 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, read with Rule 5 of the Bihar Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Rules, 2012.Following the order, an administrative and police team led by Simri circle officer Bhagwati Shankar Pandey and sub-inspector Priyanka Kumari reached the spot and restored possession of the house to Ramdulari Devi. The team broke open the lock and enabled her to re-enter her residence. After regaining possession, Ramdulari expressed gratitude to the district administration for its intervention. The action was welcomed by local residents and highlighted the importance of administrative support for senior citizens and persons with disabilities facing neglect or deprivation of their legal rights.“The case underlines the legal safeguards available to elderly parents seeking protection and maintenance from their children,” Buxar DPRO Alok Narayan Vats said, adding that the administration’s intervention had brought relief to the widow, who had been struggling to secure her right to live in her own home.
