Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary

Patna: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) netas in Bihar on Sunday hit out at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” remark at a Patna event, calling it an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s family and demanding an apology. CM Samrat Choudhary, Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi and JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha accused the Congress of lowering political standards and resorting to personal attacks amid its political setbacks. The CM demanded an immediate and unconditional apology from Kharge and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, describing the remark as “deeply unfortunate” and unacceptable in democratic politics. In a video statement released by the chief minister’s office, Choudhary accused the Congress leadership of targeting the Prime Minister’s family and said such language had no place in public discourse.“The statement made by Kharge is deeply unfortunate. Using derogatory language against PM’s father reflects the Congress’ and Rahul Gandhi’s hostility towards the his family. I demand that Kharge and Rahul immediately apologise for the offensive remarks against the PM’s father,” Choudhary said.He said political rivalry could not justify attacks on the family of the country’s PM. “The Congress party, its national president and its former president Rahul Gandhi must all apologise. Engaging in politics while showing such hostility towards the family of the country’s Prime Minister is unacceptable,” he said.Kharge made the remark while addressing a function in Patna marking the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister Shri Krishna Sinha. An audience member interrupted his speech by shouting, “As long as there is no rebellion, Modi won’t go anywhere.” Kharge responded, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega, baap bhi jayega.”Saraogi said political differences should not lead to violations of linguistic decorum or disrespect for the dignity of the PM’s office. He alleged Kharge’s remarks reflected the political thinking of the Gandhi family and said personal attacks would neither diminish Modi’s stature nor weaken public support for him.Rejecting the Congress’ allegations of vote theft as baseless, Saraogi urged the party to introspect over its electoral setbacks and declining credibility. He said voters prioritised development, good governance and accountable leadership over personal attacks and unsubstantiated allegations.Kushwaha described Kharge as a “rubber stamp” president of the Congress and alleged that senior party leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, faced corruption-related cases and were out on bail. He said the remarks reflected frustration over repeated failures to establish Rahul politically and accused the Congress of resorting to irresponsible statements and petty politics.(With inputs from Niraj Sahai)
