The BJP will contest 27 seats across Tamil Nadu, including Mylapore, Tiruppur, Coimbatore North, Madurai, Avadi, Thanjavur, Tiruvannamalai, Nagercoil and Radhapuram, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Wednesday.

Under the AIADMK-led NDA seat-sharing pact, the PMK has been allotted 18 seats, including Dharmapuri, Pennagaram, Vikravandi, Sholingur, Tiruporur, Uthiramerur, Polur, Gingee and Vriddhachalam, while the AMMK will contest 11 seats such as Mannargudi, Tiruvaiyaru, Nanguneri and parts of Tiruchirappalli and Madathukulam.

The TMC has been given five seats – Othakadai, Erode, Ranipet, Kilvelur and Kumbakonam – and the IJK two seats, Pallavaram and Kunnam. The TMMK and the Puthiya Bharatham Party have been allotted one seat each – Rajapalayam and K.V. Kuppam, respectively.

“All remaining constituencies will be contested by the AIADMK,” Palaniswami said.

Earlier in the day, the AIADMK also announced its first list of 23 candidates, which included party general secretary Palaniswami who will once again contest from his home turf of Edappadi in Salem district as well as a host of former ministers.

Of the 23 candidates announced, 21 are former ministers, and 16 are sitting MLAs.
