Kolkata: BJP national president Nitin Nabin said that in West Bengal namaz can be offered freely but the court’s permission is needed to organise pujas or set up pandals for pujas. He alleged “double standards” in the manner in which permissions were given for religious activities in Bengal and said this was “unfortunate”.

He offered prayers at Dakshineswar Kali Temple on Wednesday morning and spoke to media persons, saying “If we receive blessings, we will be able to create a ‘Vikshit’ Bengal and a ‘Sonar Bangla‘.”

Nabin, who is on a two-day visit to Bengal, said, “I offered puja at Dakshineswar and sought the blessings of goddess Kali for the well-being of the people of the state.” Nabin’s visit comes amid major protests by BJP workers over candidature, demanding change in candidates.
Nabin held a series of meetings for the second day on Wednesday in connection with election management.

The mother of the RG Kar rape-murder victim features in the BJP’s third list for the upcoming Assembly polls and has expressed eagerness to contest.
