Ganderbal, Sep 26: A specialised ENT surgical service has been restored at Sub-District Hospital Kangan after nearly nine years, with doctors successfully carrying out an endoscopic septoplasty at the hospital of 18 Year old.
The procedure was performed by ENT Specialist Dr Asif Mahajan, with the successful intervention marking the return of ENT surgeries to the hospital’s operation theatre.
The development is significant for patients from Kangan and surrounding areas, who have had limited access to such specialised surgical care at the sub-district level during the intervening period.
The surgery was conducted with the support of the anaesthesia and operation theatre teams. Head of Anaesthesia Dr Zahoor, Dr Masrat, Anaesthesia Technician Sheikh Gowhar and OT Technicians Ab. Basit and Magray Showkat were part of the team involved in the procedure.
Medical Superintendent Dr Nazir Ahmad Dar has been backing the strengthening of specialised services at SDH Kangan, with the hospital now looking to build on the revival of ENT surgical care.
The return of the service means that patients requiring suitable ENT surgical interventions can be assessed and treated at the local hospital, potentially reducing the need for referrals to facilities outside the area.
Hospital authorities said the latest procedure is being viewed as a step towards restoring specialised surgical services at SDH Kangan and widening the range of treatment available to the local population.
