Mandya: Zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini directed engineers of the rural drinking water and sanitation department to ensure an uninterrupted supply of safe and adequate drinking water to rural areas, particularly with summer approaching.Chairing the district water and sanitation committee meeting here Friday, she emphasised the need for proactive planning to prevent water shortages in villages. She instructed officials to maintain close coordination with gram panchayats to identify vulnerable areas and implement timely preventive measures. To strengthen monitoring, she directed that coordination meetings be held every Monday at the taluk level. These meetings will involve tahsildars, executive officers (EOs) of taluk panchayats and assistant executive engineers (AEEs), with the aim of reviewing drinking water supply issues and monitoring the progress of remedial works on a regular basis. During the meeting, Nandini also approved action plans for several emergency works that are not covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission. These works include repairs of overhead tanks, installation of ladders and safety fencing, repair of pure drinking water units, and procurement of electro-fusion machines required for pipeline works. In addition, permission was granted to upgrade the drinking water testing laboratory in Pandavapura taluk. On the multi-village scheme (MVS) projects, engineers were instructed to personally inspect the operation and maintenance of water supply systems in accordance with standard operating procedures and immediately rectify any defects. The CEO also directed that all non-functional water purification units be repaired and made operational as a priority.
