Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretariat on Monday urged the state govt to ensure the safety and security of Malayali students at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, amid alleged attacks by outsiders.More than 1,000 Malayali students study at the university, the secretariat said, adding that students and their parents were living in fear. The statement said the campus had witnessed protests following the alleged sexual assault of a hostel resident by an electrician employed by the university. It alleged that neither the police nor the management had taken action against the accused and that criminals allegedly linked to the management had attacked protesting students.The secretariat urged chief minister V D Satheesan to intervene and ensure that the students could continue their studies without fear and press for action against those responsible.
