Times News NetworkKanpur: Two men accused in a cow slaughter case were shot in the legs during an encounter with police in Kanpur Dehat’s Rania police station area on Sunday, while a third was arrested.Acting on an informant’s tip-off, Rania police began checking near Rind river from Raipur Kukhat and encountered the three wanted accused. Police said the accused opened fire, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defence.Fazal Karim and Salman Babu suffered bullet injuries to their legs and were taken to hospital. Police chased and arrested the third accused, Irfan.Four mobile phones, two chapad, one chhura, one chhuri, two illegal .315-bore country-made pistols, four spent cartridges, three live cartridges, one scooter and Rs 1,330 in cash were recovered from the accused.The three were wanted after an alleged cow slaughter incident in Raniya police station area on Aug 25. A case had been registered under relevant sections of Uttar Pradesh Govadh Nivaran Adhiniyam, following which raids were conducted on the superintendent of police’s instructions.Police registered another case under relevant sections over the encounter, arrests and recoveries, and initiated further legal action.
