Hyderabad: An employee of a jewellery store in Panjagutta allegedly stole 10 24-karat gold biscuits, each weighing 100 grams each, worth 1.6 crore recently. Police, based on CCTV footage and mobile phone data analysis, solved the case and nabbed the culprit within 24 hours from his house in Tadepalli in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.A representative of Joyalukkas jewellery store lodged a police complaint alleging that one of their employees stole 10 gold biscuits. In his complaint to police on Sunday (Feb 15), Joyalukkas showroom manager Jins Sebastian alleged that at 9pm on Saturday (Feb 14), they realised that 10 gold biscuits, weighing 100 grams each, were missing.

CCTV footage analysis revealed that at 4.50pm, one of their workers, K Gopalakrishna, 25, slipped the biscuits into his shoes and undergarments before leaving the store on his bike. He worked as a sales executive at the store. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 306 (Theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Treating the offence as high priority, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Panjagutta, P Murali Krishna constituted a special team. Based on the CCTV footage and mobile phone data analysis of the accused, police tracked the offender to his house in Tadepalli and arrested him on Sunday night.The entire stolen gold was recovered from Gopalakrishna. Police also seized a mobile phone and a bike from the possession of the offender. The accused would be produced before the court for judicial remand.
