Madikeri: Carcass of an elephant calf was found in Abhyat Mangala village in Kushalnagar taluk on Monday. The calf is believed to be 4-month-old, which was part of a herd that came out of the woods in search of food and water. The calf got separated from the herd, fell into a lake in a coffee plantation and died, authorities said.Kushalnagar range forest officer Rakshith, along with sub-range forest officer Sachin Nimbalkar, visited the site. Meanwhile, upset with the forest department, locals staged a road blockade on Monday evening and expressed their anger over tiger attack on livestock near Panchavalli on Gonikoppal-Mysuru state highway. Traffic was disrupted due to the protest. Locals said three tigers were spotted in the area and asked the foresters to rescue them. The villagers protested by burning tyres in the middle of the road. Following the protest, the forest department officials and police arrived and promised compensation and to launch an operation to locate the tigers.
