Bengaluru: Electrical contractors across Karnataka have sought one-time relaxation for buildings that failed to obtain electricity connections following the Supreme Court’s directive mandating occupancy certificates (OCs) for approving power supply.Contractors said the rule has impacted a large number of properties without electricity connections — over 16 lakh buildings across the state and nearly 4.5 lakh in Bengaluru alone. In a ruling in Dec 2024, Supreme Court made it mandatory for buildings to obtain OC before being granted basic services such as water supply, electricity and sewerage connections. Thousands of members of Karnataka State Licensed Electrical Contractors’ Association are expected to assemble at Freedom Park Wednesday to stage a protest. The contractors are demanding clarity on guidelines governing electricity connections to under-construction houses and other buildings.
