Krishnagiri: An unidentified man robbed an 80-year-old woman of 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 50,000 in cash after giving her a spiked drink in Krishnagiri district on Monday.The victim, Chinna Akkayamma, lives alone in a rented house in Chinnatti village. “On Sunday, a man approached her claiming to be a marriage broker. During their conversations, she told him about her asthma problem. The man assured her that he would return with an effective medicine for asthma,” said an officer at the Kelamangalam police station.On Monday morning, he returned with a milk packet, claiming that he had mixed the medicine for asthma in it. The woman drank it and fell unconscious. The man then broke open her cupboard, stole jewellery and cash, locked the house from outside and fled.When she regained consciousness, Akkayamma cried for help through the window. Neighbours alerted her relatives, who rushed to the spot, broke open the door and rescued her.Based on a complaint, the Kelamangalam police registered a case and launched a manhunt for the suspect.(No photo)
