Kanpur: A 70-year-old woman died during treatment at a city hospital after an unidentified assailant allegedly assaulted her while snatching her gold nose ring in Khamhaura village of Banda district late Friday, police said.Police said the deceased, Kishori, had gone to check her field in the Atarra Kotwali area when a man approached her on the pretext of asking for directions. He allegedly snatched her nose ring, grabbed her by the neck and assaulted her when she resisted. She fell unconscious, following which the assailant fled.After regaining consciousness, Kishori walked about 200 metres to a roadside, where a neighbouring farmer found her injured and took her home.Her family rushed her to a community health centre, where she died during treatment later that night. Police sent the body for postmortem.Inspector Rakesh Tiwari said a case had been registered on a complaint lodged by the family and police have launched an investigation.Kishori’s husband and one of her two sons had predeceased her. Her surviving son works as a home guard.
