Prayagraj: Body of a 70-year-old man was found in a highly decomposed state inside his locked house in Naini on Saturday morning, after neighbours alerted the police upon noticing a foul smell emanating from the premises. The incident was reported near Karamat Chauraha in the Mahewa area.The deceased Mahmood Ali used to live alone in the house. According to local residents, he was estranged from his wife for some time, and the couple had no children. His brothers live separately. Neighbours said the elderly man was reportedly suffering from mental health issues and rarely interacted with people. They added that he had not been seen outside his house for nearly a week.After receiving information, the Naini police reached the spot and entered the locked house with the help of a ladder. Finding the body inside, officers immediately called the forensic team, which conducted a detailed examination and collected evidence from the scene. The body was later sent for post-mortem. Preliminary findings by the forensic team suggest that he died around four days ago.Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death. The post-mortem examination report is awaited and is expected to provide further clarity on the circumstances surrounding the elderly man’s death.
