Ahmedabad: An elderly man was assaulted and property was vandalised outside the office of former BJP corporator Prakash Gurjar in the Bapunagar area late on Monday, following a dispute over money that escalated into violence.According to police, the attack was allegedly carried out by Jigar Patel alias Jigar Kathiyawadi along with his three associates. The victim, who resides near Gurjar’s office close to Gayatri Mandir in the Gujarat Housing Board locality, was targeted after a dispute involving his son.Police said the accused and the victim’s son were known to each other since meeting in Sabarmati Central Jail several years ago. The accused had allegedly been demanding money from the son and had recently called him for a meeting near Nikol, where an argument reportedly took place.Around midnight, Jigar and his brother Sevul Patel allegedly arrived at the victim’s residence, shouting and demanding the son’s whereabouts. When the elderly man intervened, he was allegedly attacked with an iron pipe.Soon after, two more aides of the accused joined them, and the group allegedly vandalised property outside Gurjar’s office, damaging an iron locker, breaking glass panels and smashing a board and a fan installed in the shed.Police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused.
