Bengaluru: On Tuesday, a senior couple travelling from Pune to Bengaluru accidentally left behind a wallet containing valuable gold ornaments on their train. Acting swiftly on a complaint, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Bengaluru division, traced and recovered the bag and returned it to the passengers.Manjunath and Sunitha (names changed) had alighted from Train 11301 Udyan Express at Yelahanka early in the morning and headed home. It was only after reaching their residence that Sunitha, 58, realised the purse was missing. Their son promptly lodged a Rail Madad complaint at 4.50am. The complainant reported that a handbag had been left behind in Coach B1 of the train. Acting promptly, the RPF control room alerted on-duty staff, including head constable N Sukumar, who was on escort duty aboard the train.Following instructions, Sukumar rushed to the third AC coach and located the unattended bag on a lower berth. The train had already crossed KR Puram by then. Around 5.15am, the bag was secured and later handed over to an RPF constable at Bengaluru Cantonment station upon arrival.“I got a call from my superiors when I was inspecting a sleeper compartment, and the train had already passed KR Puram by that time. I reached the coach, and the bag was left behind on the lower berth when I reached. It’s not the first time such incidents have occurred. Passengers should report immediately, as was done in this case,” Sukumar said. The bag was returned to the complainant later in the day after due verification. RPF officials said it contained gold ornaments weighing about 50 grams, valued at Rs 7.5 lakh, along with Rs 3,500 in cash—all recovered intact. The complainant credited the quick action to the Rail Madad system, noting the swift response from authorities.
