Kanpur: Eight passengers, including the driver, were injured after a Delhi-bound private bus carrying 45 passengers rammed into the rear of a truck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Kannauj early Friday.Police suspect the accident occurred after the bus driver allegedly dozed off at the wheel. The injured were admitted to Govt Medical College, Tirwa, while police seized both vehicles.The accident took place around 4.30 am near Mundala village under Taalgram Kotwali limits. According to police, the bus was travelling from Delhi to Gorakhpur when it crashed into the truck moving ahead. The impact was so severe that several passengers were thrown from their seats, triggering panic inside the bus. The driver was trapped inside the mangled cabin and was rescued after considerable effort.The truck driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the spot. The injured bus driver was identified as Intzar, a resident of Meerut.Among the seriously injured are Shivam (15) and Sunita (40), residents of Budhi Balar in Sant Kabir Nagar; Abhishek (19) of Bhairopur Kodagan in Gorakhpur; Saubhagya (25), a resident of Manipur; and Gokul (25) from Selapur in Karnataka.Police later removed the damaged bus and the truck from the expressway and restored traffic.
