Patna: A Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) team on Thursday arrested an undersecretary of the education department for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Patna.The accused, identified as Amod Mishra, undersecretary in the pay verification cell of the education department, was arrested near Minister Enclave Mor in Gardanibagh.According to the VIB, complainant Uma Shankar Umrebi, a resident of Nai Sarai in Bihar Sharif, Nalanda, filed a complaint alleging that Mishra was demanding a bribe to process payment of arrears.The bureau verified the complaint and found evidence supporting the allegation. After the complaint was found prima facie true, a case was registered at the VIB office in Patna on July 1. A raiding team was subsequently constituted under the supervision of investigating officer, Shyam Babu Prasad, DSP, Vigilance Investigation Bureau, Patna.The team laid a trap and arrested Mishra while he was allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant near Gardanibagh. The bureau said the accused would be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna after interrogation. Further investigation is underway.With this, the VIB has registered its 79th corruption case of 2026. Of these, 74 are trap cases, in which 74 accused have so far been caught red-handed.
