Patna: Two schoolgirls were killed after a speeding SUV hit their bicycle on the Obra-Bel-Pauthu road near Bhataari village under Pauthu police station in Aurangabad on Thursday morning.The deceased were identified as Asiya Praveen, 14, daughter of Rustam Ali, and Apsari Khatoon, 15, daughter of Rizauddin Ansari, both residents of Naraula village.Police said the girls were returning home on a bicycle after attending classes at a coaching institute in Barahi Bazaar when a speeding SUV struck them. Asiya died on the spot, while Apsari succumbed to her injuries on the way to Sadar Hospital, Aurangabad.Following the accident, villagers placed the bodies on the Obra-Bel-Pauthu road near Barahi and blocked traffic, demanding adequate compensation for the families and strict action against the driver. The blockade continued for about an hour, leading to long queues of vehicles.Pauthu SHO Sanjay Kumar, along with other police officers and the Bel panchayat mukhiya, reached the spot and persuaded the protesters to end the blockade after assuring them of appropriate action. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem.“Police have seized the SUV involved in the crash. The driver is absconding and a search is on. Initial probe suggests speeding was the main cause of the accident,” Sanjay said.
