Kolkata: The Election Commission on Saturday removed a sector assistant from his post and show-caused him after Trinamool Congress cited a video — in which he is seen preparing BJP campaign materials — and filed a complaint, demanding strict action against him. The returning officer of Panihati constituency also wrote to the district election officer also alleged that Atanu Chakraborty, assistant teacher of Choudhurypara Prathamik Vidyalaya was seen in close association with the activities of a political party.In its complaint filed with the Bengal CEO, Trinamool complained that Chakraborty, a sector assistant in the constituency, had violated election norms. Seeking immediate intervention, Trinamool urged the CEO to remove Chakraborty from all election-related duties in the upcoming assembly elections and to initiate strict legal action against him. Panihati is witnessing a high-decibel contest, with the BJP fielding the mother of the RG Kar victim as its candidate.
In a letter addressed to the CEO, Trinamool leader Derek O’Brien accused Chakraborty of engaging in activities linked to BJP, thereby breaching the Model Code of Conduct and other legal provisions. The complaint cited a video that surfaced on various social media platforms, purportedly showing Chakraborty participating in the preparation of BJP campaign materials.
