Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum administration on Sunday marked World Tribal Day with a cultural programme, felicitation ceremony and asset distribution event. The programme began with tributes to Birsa Munda, the legendary tribal leader who led an uprising against British rule, and Padma Bhushan awardee Shibu Soren, known as Disom Guru.Celebrating tribal heritage, traditions, history and the community’s bond with nature, the event featured a theatrical presentation on Birsa Munda’s life, struggles and legacy. Paika and Chhau dances drew applause, while a photo exhibition showcased Jharkhand’s cultural and historical heritage and contributions of revolutionaries.Achievers in sports, literature, filmmaking and environmental conservation who brought laurels to the state nationally and internationally were felicitated. Meritorious matriculation and intermediate students were honoured. Beneficiaries received assets and assistance worth over Rs 20 crore under welfare schemes, including scholarships, bicycles, forest rights pattas, pension sanction letters, hearing aids, livelihood support, community investment funds, solar pumps and other benefits.DC Rajiv Ranjan said the day was an opportunity to remember tribal heritage, history and revolutionaries’ role in social development. He stressed that protecting water, forests and land is a collective responsibility, and urged youth to pursue education, skills and jobs while preserving language, art, traditions and their heritage.
