Nagpur: A major fire that broke out at a ground-plus-two residential building in Besa area early Saturday morning gutted household items worth nearly 70 lakh, with the property owner alleging that a delayed response by the fire dept worsened the damage. No person was injured in the incident.The fire occurred at plot no 26 belonging to Snehadip Bhaisare in Harihar Nagar under Sanyog Society. According to Besa fire officials, the call was officially received at around 4.19am, following which a team from the Besa Nagar Panchayat fire station rushed to the spot within 10 minutes. Officials said the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Narendra Nagar fire station received the call at 4.40am and reached the location within six minutes.However, Bhaisare claimed the family informed the fire brigade much earlier. He alleged that the first call was made around 3.50am, but the fire tender arrived almost an hour later. By then, the entire house had already been gutted, he said, adding that even the response from the Narendra Nagar fire station was delayed.Fire officials said the blaze broke out in the ground-plus-two residential building and spread rapidly inside the house, destroying several costly household items. An LED television, sofa set, beds, mattresses, sound system, computer, fans, furniture, clothes and other electronic appliances were completely gutted in the fire.Despite the loss, occupants managed to move out in time. Fire officer Sanket Matey of Besa fire station said exact cause of the fire is not known yet and will be ascertained after a detailed inspection. The blaze was brought under control before it could spread to nearby houses.
