Pune: Passengers heading to the airport as well as the ones returning, were stranded in the traffic for almost two hours after a PMPML e-bus broke down causing traffic jam on the Lohegaon airport road on Tuesday morning.Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Sandip Bhajibhakare told TOI, “An electric PMPML bus developed a technical snag near 509 chowk on the Airport road at around 9 am. It blocked the maximum carriage width of the road and there was hardly any space for the other vehicles. PMPML officials reached the spot, but failed to repair the bus initially,”“Later, the bus was repaired and taken off the road. By then, it had caused a major traffic jam. We had deployed teams at the spot and few vehicles were diverted from the new Airport road,” he said.A senior PMPML official said, “E buses are instructed to get fast charging done during the lean hours, around 2-4pm. But heavy traffic makes it difficult for them to reach these stations on time. Without any charge to run on, some buses break down.”
