Hyderabad: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Moinabad drug bust case on Tuesday said blood tests of Andhra Pradesh TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar detected two drugs, amphetamine and methamphetamine, indicating the possible use of MDMA. While Namit Sharma, a Delhi-based businessman, also tested positive for the same substances along with cocaine.“Any person who uses MDMA tests positive for these synthetic substances. In this case, we suspect the TDP MP consumed MDMA,” said an official part of the investigation.Senior officials from EAGLE (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement), who are part of the SIT, also said that testing positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine indicates possible consumption of MDMA.The SIT was constituted on Tuesday by Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy.Yogesh Goutam, deputy commissioner of police, Chevella, who is part of the nine-member SIT, said six of the 11 accused tested positive for drug consumption.“Former BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy, his brother Ritesh Reddy, Kaushik Ravi and Arjun Reddy tested positive for cocaine. Sharma tested positive for cocaine, amphetamine and methamphetamine. MP Mahesh Kumar tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” the DCP told newsmen.Rohith Reddy, Ritesh and their associate Sharma are currently in judicial remand. DCP Goutam said they have moved a petition before a local court seeking their custody to gather further evidence.Soon after constituting the SIT, the DGP directed the team to carry out an in-depth investigation.“The SIT should go to the bottom of the case and probe into all aspects in connection with the commission of the offence. The SIT should complete investigation in the case and file a chargesheet within three months,” the DGP said in an order.Meanwhile, police invoked section 109 (attempt to murder) of the BNS after Sharma allegedly opened fire during the raid at Rohith Reddy’s farmhouse in Moinabad on March 14 night.“Sharma fired three shots to deter our team from entering the farmhouse. It appears that Rohith Reddy and Ritesh provoked him to fire and when our team entered after loudly announcing their arrival, he again fired one more round towards the police team. That’s why an attempt to murder section was also added,” the DCP said.Moinabad police are considering writing to the Cyberabad police commissioner recommending cancellation of the arms licence issued to Ritesh in view of the latest case.Police booked 11 persons, including the ex-MLA and the Eluru MP, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Arms Act, Excise Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
