Kanpur: A private double-decker bus travelling from Delhi to Bihar lost control and crashed into a trailer on the National Highway in Etawah early Monday morning, leaving the driver dead and six passengers critically injured.The accident occurred at around 5:40 am near Jagmohanpur village under the Ekdil police station area. The collision was so severe that the bus was completely wrecked and both legs of the driver were severed. The driver succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.According to eyewitnesses and local police, the bus driver suddenly dozed off, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, and the bus rammed into the rear of the trailer moving ahead.Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing screams, began relief operations and informed the police. On receiving information, CO (City) Abhay Narayan, Ekdil police station personnel and Friends Colony TSI arrived at the scene with police force. After much effort, the police rescued the driver and the injured passengers trapped inside the bus. “Investigations are underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident,” the CO said. tnn
