Margao: Margao town police on Wednesday arrested the driver of the rent-a-cab vehicle that knocked down a woman two-wheeler rider at Sirlim and fled the scene. Police traced him to Calangute with the help of CCTV and dashcam footage.The accused, Swaraj Jagtap, 19, a native of Pune, was brought to the police station after arrest. Given the gravity of the incident, police added a case of attempt to murder against him under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was earlier charged with rash and negligent driving. The Thar involved in the accident also has been seized.Margao town police alerted other police stations after identifying the Thar. PI Arun Gauns Dessai is conducting further investigation in the case.Nivia Gomes, 44, is currently undergoing treatment at GMC. Her relatives said she sustained fractures and was undergoing surgery.
